Frequently asked questions about ISO 9001 certification in Belarus

ISO 9001, STB ISO 9001 and GOST R ISO 9001: what is the difference?

ISO 9001 is the international standard for quality management systems. STB ISO 9001-2015 is its national version in Belarus, and GOST R ISO 9001-2015 is the one used in Russia.

A new edition of the international standard, ISO 9001:2026, was published in September 2026. ISO 9001:2015 certificates remain valid until September 30, 2029.

The core requirements for a quality management system are comparable, but the certificate designation, the certification scheme and where the certificate applies are different. Operating in Belarus or taking part in a tender may require STB specifically, a Russian customer may require GOST R, and export calls for the international ISO 9001.

We check the requirements of your customer or the tender documentation and recommend only the certificates they actually list.

Who issues the certificate: you or the certification body?

The certificate is issued by an independent certification body, and it makes the decision based on its own audit.

We prepare your quality management system and documents, select a certification body for your goals and support your company through the certification audit.

What is accreditation of a certification body?

Accreditation is independent confirmation that a certification body is competent: its procedures, its auditors and its right to assess against the specified standards and fields of activity.

For national certification, you can check the body’s scope of accreditation with the Belarusian State Centre for Accreditation. For international purposes, what matters is the mutual recognition chain of the Global ACI MRA (formerly IAF MLA). The IAF MLA mark remains valid.

An accredited certificate is not needed in every situation. We select the body for your specific goal: a tender, a customer requirement, work in Belarus or export.

What documents do you need to get the certificate?

The set of documents depends on your industry, the size of your organization, the number of sites and how your processes already work.

Typically you need:

  • a quality policy and quality objectives;
  • a description of the QMS scope;
  • a process map;
  • allocation of responsibilities;
  • an assessment of risks and opportunities;
  • control of documents and nonconformities;
  • records of employee competence, internal audits and management reviews.

We develop or adapt the documentation for your company, train the responsible employees and prepare your organization for the certification audit.

How long does ISO 9001 certification take?

Certification usually takes 14 to 90 business days. The timeline depends on your headcount, the number of branches and sites, how ready your documentation is, the complexity of your processes and the auditors’ schedule.

First we assess the current state of your QMS, then we prepare the documents, train the responsible employees, conduct an internal audit, and support your company during the certification audit and while nonconformities are corrected. We fix the exact timeline and stages before the project starts.

How much does ISO 9001 certification cost in Belarus?

International ISO 9001 certification for a company with up to 25 employees and one site starts at $2,000. The final cost depends on your headcount, the number of sites, the certification scope, how ready your QMS is, the chosen certification body, and whether you need a national STB certificate or an international ISO 9001 one.

You can see a preliminary price in the calculator on this page, in Belarusian rubles and US dollars. Once we have briefly clarified your requirements, we send you a quote with the exact price and fix it in the contract. Payment in installments: 50/50 or 25/50/25, with the final payment after you receive the certificate.

Is an ISO 9001 certificate recognized abroad?

For export, we choose a certification body whose accreditation is part of the international mutual recognition system. Such a certificate is easier to prove to a foreign customer, bank, marketplace or supply chain partner.

But there is no universal automatic recognition for every deal: a specific client or tender may set its own requirements for the standard, the certification body and accreditation. We check these conditions before the project starts and, if needed, arrange translation and legalization of documents.

How can I verify that an ISO 9001 certificate is genuine?

Every certificate has a unique number. First, check it in the certification body’s register: the organization name, address, standard, certification scope, issue date and current status must all match.

For an accredited certificate, also check the certification body itself and its scope of accreditation. International certificates may also appear in IAF CertSearch if the data has been submitted to the database. Once the certification body issues your certificate, we will send you instructions and a link for verification.

Is ISO 9001 enough to take part in a tender?

That depends on the documentation of the specific procurement. In one case the international ISO 9001 is enough; in another, STB ISO 9001-2015 or GOST R ISO 9001-2015 is required specifically, or a particular edition of the standard, accreditation or additional standards such as ISO 14001 or ISO 45001.

Send us the relevant clause of the tender documentation. We will analyze the wording and suggest the minimum set that meets the requirement without unnecessary costs.

What if your company has no QMS specialist?

Hiring a dedicated full-time specialist is usually not necessary. The company appoints one or more responsible employees who know the processes and can maintain the system after certification.

We develop the documentation, assign roles, train the responsible employees and support the team up to the audit. As a result, the QMS stays manageable within the company, and employees understand what records to keep and when.

The certificate is valid for 3 years: what happens during this period?

After the initial audit, the certification body carries out annual surveillance audits. The company continues to keep records, update documents, conduct internal audits and management reviews, and correct any nonconformities found.

Recertification takes place before the end of the three-year cycle. We remind you of key dates in advance. Annual surveillance is a separate paid service of the certification body and is not included in the cost of the initial certification project.

Can a valid certificate be transferred to another certification body?

Yes, if the certificate is valid and was issued by an accredited body. This is usually needed when the previous body no longer works with the company or the certificate is about to expire.

We check the certificate status, its scope and the surveillance audits already completed, and then assess whether a transfer is possible. If it is not, we plan recertification and coordinate the dates so that your certification stays uninterrupted for contracts and tenders.
